JAKARTA - The Minecraft film, which has been made for years from Warner Bros., may be one step away from becoming a reality. Aquaman star Jason Momoa is currently in "final negotiations" to star in the film.

According to reports that appeared on Substack The Ankler, Hollywood Reporter, and Variety, Momoa will be the main character for the big screen version of Minecraft. However, it seems that the film is far from actually hitting theaters, as neither THR nor Variety has given an exact release date. While Warner Bros. has not wanted to make further statements on this news.

The current Minecraft movie itself has hit a few blocks (buh-dum tish) over the last few years. The film was first announced in 2014, and a few months later, Night at the Museum and Free Guy director, Shawn Levy, will reportedly direct the film's adaptation of the hit game.

However, in 2015, Rob McElhenney, best known for his work on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the hit Apple TV Plus show Mythic Quest, was also confirmed as director. Even in 2016, the film was given a 2019 release date. But the project is still dark.

Even director McElhenney then left the project in 2018. Furthermore, as reported by The Verge, Warner Bros. chose to postpone the making of the film. At one point, the Minecraft movie was due for release on March 4, 2022, but was pushed to make room for The Batman to appear first.

Despite these issues, the Minecraft movie still looks like it could be a good bet for Warner Bros. This Minecraft franchise is still very popular. In fact it just surpassed 1 trillion views on YouTube in December.

The video game film has had a few moments, with Uncharted and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 proving to be big hits so far. But the public will have to wait and see if the Minecraft film and the Mario film led by Chris Pratt will continue to be a trend in the future.
