JAKARTA – Italian football giant AC Milan has partnered with crypto exchange BitMEX to release a limited edition non-fungible token (NFT). The proceeds from the sale will be used to support the non-profit organization Fondazione Milan.

It will also be used for the survival of AC Milan's own football club. The release of NFT AC Milan is part of an effort to explore new ways for the club to engage directly with its global fanbase of around 500 million fans from around the world.

As reported by CryptoPotato, AC Milan has launched a new NFT project in collaboration with BitMEX and FanSea. The club has sold a limited edition NFT 3D jersey specifically for the Rossoneri from South Sudan. Proceeds from the sale will be directed towards supporting NGO charitable initiatives around the world and will also include efforts to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis in war-torn Ukraine.

The 3D NFT in question was created by a platform called FanSea with the help of sustainable technology. Interested fans can purchase one or more of the 75,817 certified digital memorabilia starting April 14. After this, users can access NFT 3D on the platform's app version after it was launched two weeks later.

The limited edition NFT represents the torn AC Milan jersey of a boy in South Sudan heading to the Milan museum. The special jersey was photographed by Danish photographer Jan Grarup when he visited South Sudan to document the impact of floods on the landlocked east African nation.

The photographer reportedly met the boy wearing his Milan jersey, then he bought a new jersey and took the worn Milan jersey to donate to the club. Subsequently, the jersey was put on display at the Mondo Milan Museum in Casa Milan, the Rossoneri's headquarters in Milan.

“Thanks to AC Milan partner BitMEX, who have committed to contribute to the project by making a donation to Fondazione Milan through the purchase of a special NFT in bulk, the first 10,000 fans who pre-order NFT will also receive an additional benefit, allowing users to get trading discounts and other benefits on BitMEX.com.”

Last summer, AC Milan signed a deal with BitMEX as its official partner with a duration of several years. For this collaboration, the BitMEX logo will be displayed on the official jersey of soccer players.
