JAKARTA - Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan has promised that the company will continue to acquire more studios in the future after a major buyout in 2021.

Sony has acquired five studios by 2021. So far in 2022, Sony announced a deal to buy Destiny 2 developer Bungie. and Jade Raymond's Haven Studios.

In a recent PlayStation podcast, launched by GameSpot, Ryan said buying the studio could help grow his business, and fans can expect this to continue.

“We are growing through acquisitions. We are acquiring five studios through 2021. We are in discussions with Bungie. And we have more plans,” Ryan said.

Ryan also added, Sony will not put new release games on its subscription service on the first day. Sony wants to make games that are bigger, and have better narratives.

Ryan revealed that he would stick with the traditional paid model, as it was a way to keep Sony's cycle of success intact going forward.

"Putting these games into a subscription service as soon as they're released is going to break this good circle. And we won't be able to invest in the way we can at the moment. So, we didn't," he explained.

By 2021, Sony had bought Valkyrie Entertainment, Housemarque, Bluepoint, Firesprite, and Nixxes. Also in 2021, Sony will invest $200 million into the Fortnite studio Epic Games.
