JAKARTA - YouTube is rumored to be enhancing artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically place an age limit on videos that are inappropriate for children to watch. This responds to criticism that says YouTube is not safe for children.

Even so, the YouTube team itself has often warned that the video platform is not intended for children under the age of 13. They have reminded parents to switch their video views to YouTube Kids as an alternative to viewing for children.

"Going forward, we will develop our approach to using machine learning to detect preview content, so that YouTube will help its users to automatically enforce watch age limits," said YouTube in a blog post, Thursday, September 24.

Summarized by The Verge, the use of AI will be intended to curate shows that children under 18 years old should not see. Where previously, moderation of YouTube shows was carried out by humans who sometimes escaped observation.

This has been done by YouTube when curating video content related to violent extremism in 2017. Including content that speaks of hate speech.

Indeed, YouTube has increased the use of artificial intelligence as a way to detect harmful content in its videos due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Where this digital moderation system has deleted more videos in the second quarter of 2020 than ever before.

Due to the fact, video sites cannot rely on human moderators, where they are required to increase the use of automatic filters in order to remove videos that may violate their policies without missing a single one.

While YouTube's content removal system isn't necessarily more accurate, companies accept a lower level of accuracy to ensure that they remove as much offending content as possible.
