Tempted By Epic Games' Success, Roblox Recruits Engineers To Bring Their Game To PlayStation

JAKARTA - Roblox is a very popular game, at least according to the Roblox company. The game which was released in 2006 is claimed to have nearly 50 million users who play it every day. That's partly because Roblox is free to play and available on multiple platforms, including iOS, Android, PC, and Xbox.

One notable absence from that list is on the PlayStation. But that could change in the near future. Because Roblox has posted a job listing for "Senior Software Engineer, PlayStation Console."

"As a Game Console Software Engineer, you will assist in building and supporting our game engine that is used by millions of users worldwide for the Sony PlayStation platform, and other leading game consoles on the market," said Roblox.

The listing also says one of the job responsibilities is to develop and support Roblox client applications for game console platforms such as Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4.

While this list shows that Roblox is seriously looking to bring Roblox to PlayStation, it's still unclear if or when exactly it will be available on Sony's platform. Previously, Roblox had expressed an openness to expanding to new platforms.

On a earnings call in May 2021, Roblox CEO David Baszucki said that Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Meta's Quest all made sense for Roblox and they were logical platforms. However, Baszucki added that "we will not share when or any dates for them."

It looks like Roblox realized how much cash Epic Games has, from Fortnite on PlayStation. From March 2018 to July 2020, the PlayStation 4 generated nearly half of Fortnite's total revenue, according to court documents released ahead of the Epic Games vs Apple trial. Roblox may not want to leave a similar opportunity. Regarding this, Roblox refused to comment.
