JAKARTA - The World Health Organization (WHO) has signed a contract with Deutsche Telekom subsidiary, T-Systems, to build a software solution for the verification of global electronic Coronavirus vaccination certificates.

Confirmation of the contract was announced by T-Systems, recently. However, the company did not mention the size of the contract they got from the WHO and when it would be enforced. They keep the meeting, financial details of the transactions in the contract.

According to T-System, this QR code-based software solution will also be used for other vaccinations as well, such as polio or yellow fever.

The company also said that WHO would encourage its 194 member countries to develop national and regional verification technologies.

"Health is a strategic growth area for T-Systems", said T-Systems Chief Executive Officer, Adel Al-Saleh.

T-Systems previously worked with SAP, to develop the German Corona-Warn-App tracking and verification application and a digital COVID-19 vaccine verification system across Europe.

An application similar to Indonesia's application, PeduliLindungi, will later be applied to all WHO member countries. However, they did not comment on the fate of local applications if the WHO application was later implemented.
