JAKARTA - YouTube is again attracting content creators to make money on its platform, and bringing several new features to Shorts, a competitor to TikTok.

YouTube's Chief Product Officer, Neal Mohan, in the company's official blog describes what features will start rolling out this year. As for Shorts, which will launch new video effects, editing capabilities, and the ability to reply to comments by creating Shorts, just as content creators do on TikTok.

Additionally, now on YouTube Shorts content creators will also be able to monetize through branded content monetization, bring Super Chat to Shorts, and enable the ability to shop from Shorts.

The shopping feature will be extended across applications. Google is also exploring other ways to incorporate shopping features into the YouTube experience.

Further, several new insights will be added to YouTube Studio that the company says can help content creators understand how viewers interact on videos that creators create and help spark ideas for new videos.

"To address this need, we will introduce new insights in YouTube Studio that empower smarter creation. Our tools will leverage YouTube and Google datasets and enable content creators to better understand audience demand, helping to generate concrete content ideas for future videos." Mohan said.

For the Live feature, YouTube brings the ability for content creators to broadcast live together, in order to increase interactivity and overcome the problem of lack of material to be conveyed to viewers.

Launching The Verge, Friday, February 11, on the user side, YouTube is planning to bring a popular Twitch feature, namely talent membership. YouTube has already started testing this feature, but Mohan says it will expand its capabilities in the coming months.

Furthermore, they are integrated with each other. Where it allows users to interact on mobile with the videos they watch on TV. This will work when the user is logged into the same account on both devices and will allow viewers to read or write comments and share videos from their mobile device.

Lastly, YouTube TV will also get a redesign this year which Mohan says will improve the look and feel, and allow users to more easily organize their favorite shows.
