JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the Coinu Tropical Cyclone, which is observed to be in the eastern Philippine Sea region, has the potential to trigger heavy rains in a number of parts of Indonesia, Sunday.

"The Coinu tropical cyclone is moving with a maximum wind speed of 35 knots and a minimum air pressure of 1000 mb moving north of the Northwest to North," said BMKG forecaster Gumilang Deranadian as followed by ANTARA from BMKG YouTube in Jakarta, Sunday.

BMKG appealed to the public to be aware of the potential for strong winds in East Java, West Java, West Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, and South Sulawesi.

The cyclone also has the opportunity to trigger significant wave heights ranging from 2.5 -- 4 meters in the West Indian Ocean region from northern Sumatra to southern Sumatra and extending to the southern coastal areas of Java to East Nusa Tenggara.

BMKG also informed weather forecasts in a number of major cities in Indonesia, ranging from rain in Sumatra in the Medan area, and Tanjungpinang.
