JAKARTA - In this modern era, the development of electric cars was massive. This is evidenced by the sale of Mercedes-Benz electric cars which reached more than 500,000 units in the first quarter of 2023.

In total, Mercedes-Benz managed to sell 503,500 units in the first quarter. It also recorded the German manufacturer's latest sales record in its first three-month annual period. The achievement was announced directly by a member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Britta Seeger.

Reporting from Reuters, Jum'at, April 14, 2023, Seeger explained that during January to March 2023, sales increased in the Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle segment due to a new model that managed to attract the European market. Thus, production from the EV increased by 8 percent.

"Electric cars are the main growth driver of the quarter, with sales nearly doubling to 51,600 units," Seeger said.

The sale not only depends on electric cars, but also on sales of other high-end cars from AMG, Maybach, and G-Class also shows improvements.

The sales growth lasted up to 18 percent or 91,800 units in the quarter of this year.

Interestingly, the Mercedes-Benz sales took place in the midst of economic obstacles such as geopolitical conditions and supply chain crises.

Nonetheless, Mercedes-Benz can prove that their sales are rising amid rampant inflation and fend off barriers arising amid the development of the auto industry.
