JAKARTA - Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) will take a major step in revolutionizing electric vehicle technology by launching production from next-generation solid-state batteries.

Launching from The Korean Car Blog, Friday, December 27, manufacturers from South Korea are completing preparations to prepare a solid-state battery pilot route at the Next-Generation Battery Research Center at the Uiwang Research Institute, Gyeonggi-do.

According to Hyundai, this sophisticated facility focuses on developing battery mass production technology for future mobility solutions.

An official familiar with the project stated that the installation of equipment for each process is almost complete, and all that remains is the construction of a logistics automation facility. This full-scale operation is expected to begin in January.

Previously, HMG had revealed plans to internalize next-generation battery technology in July 2022. This includes the development of solid-state batteries in the newly built research building in Uiwang.

The company has a vision to pilot this advanced battery-equipped electric vehicle by 2025 and start mass production starting in 2030.

Solid-state batteries are claimed to be a breakthrough in environmentally friendly mobility. By replacing liquid electrolytes in conventional lithium-ion batteries with solid materials, the battery significantly reduces the risk of explosions or fires while ensuring higher safety.

In addition, increasing its energy density increases driving performance and expands the reach of electric vehicles.

With more advanced batteries and safety feature support superior to today, solid-state batteries are expected to be the standard for next-generation electric vehicles.

Apart from Hyundai, other manufacturers have started to install bodies in the development of the battery. Morris Garage (MG) confirmed that he would enter the EV market with solid-state batteries in the future.

Meanwhile, last year, Toyota will also provide this technology which is believed to be able to charge from 0 to 100 percent within 10 minutes.
