JAKARTA - The government is preparing incentives other than pure electric vehicles, including a hybrid model, which is currently quite well-selling in the Indonesian automotive market.

The Indonesian Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, said that he was discussing incentives or stimulus for the Sales Tax on Luxury Goods (PPnBM) and Government-borne Value Added Tax (PPn DTP).

Responding to this, the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) through Chair 1 Jongkie Sugiarto hopes that the plan (hybrid incentives) is true even though it is not in the same range as pure electric vehicles.

"The hybrid car has met four to five criteria. I think it is also feasible to get incentives from the government," he said, when met in the Sunter area, North Jakarta, Tuesday, December 10.

Furthermore, Jongkie Sugiarto said the criteria in question where the hybrid car has been designed by each manufacturer as a vehicle that is indeed efficient in the use of fuel.

"A hybrid car is also a type of vehicle that produces low levels of pollution," he added.

He said other criteria, not a few hybrid cars in Indonesia do not require charging stations, and currently the number of charger facilities is not sufficient.

"We know that the number of electric car chargers is not sufficient, and this hybrid does not need plugs," he explained.

Furthermore, he revealed that the cost of producing hybrid cars is not as expensive as a pure electric car, and the next criteria for hybrid cars are still using many components such as gasoline cars in general.

"The hybrid car still uses a radiator, then there is an exhaust, there are still many components. That way the industry does not disappear immediately. If the BEV is immediately lost," he concluded.
