New Electric Motor Subsidy Rules Will Be Issued Soon, Recipient Terms Changed

YOGYAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry announced that a new regulation on the subsidy of electric motors will be issued this week. The revision of the subsidy rule of IDR 7 million for the purchase of electric motorcycles will be applied not only to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), but also to anyone or the general public.

"Soon, this week it will come out. Revision for motorcycles (electric) yes," said Taufiek Bawazier, Director General of Metal Industry, at the Ministry of Industry office, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (8/8).

The government revealed that the interest of people who are interested in utilizing electric motor subsidies is still very minimal. Of the target of as many as 200 thousand recipients, only about one percent has been realized. Departing from this problem, the rules for receiving subsidies are simplified to reach more people.

Through Permenperin 6/2023, this year the Ministry of Industry has prepared as many as 200 thousand electric motorcycles to be distributed to the public. There are 25 electric motorcycle models included in this program.

The electric motor subsidy program has been running since March. From the target of 200 thousand units to be achieved, this program is still being realized slowly, so evaluation is needed. Until now, the available quota is still 198.397 units.

Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Industry, at the end of last month said he wanted to remove the criteria for receiving electric motor subsidies. The four requirements are beneficiaries of people's business credit, productive assistance for micro businesses, wage subsidy assistance and recipients of electricity subsidies of up to 900 volt ampere according to the Regulation of the Minister of Industry (Permenperin) Number 6 of 2023.

In addition, Taufik Bawazier said the requirements for subsidized recipients would be revised so that the four criteria were removed and the program was made open to the public. Later one Population Identification Number (NIK) on the ID card can only get one unit of electric motor in the subsidy program.

"This electric motorbike has changed the requirements, we have to change that requirement, we will change the existing Permenperin, yesterday we wrote the Dukcapil, because it concerns the NIK throughout Indonesia, the authority is in the Ministry of Home Affairs," he said.
