Sammy Badminton Talks About David Lee Roth, This Is What He Said

Sammymeny again touched on David Lee Roth's big ego and his bad vocals.

Sammy and another former Van Halen vocalist, David, spent the summer of 2002 co-headlining the title "Smen'stens And David Lee Roth Tour 2002: Song For Song, The Heavyweight Champs Of Rock And Roll".

In a performance on the podcast "Wind Ride!" recently, he recalled the show

"At that time [David] had no solo careers, really. I mean, he did, but he didn't sell. I sold the arena. I sold amphitheaters as Sammy totaling with the Wabos. And I solo careers," said Sammy.

"Ask Mick Jagger. Ask Robert Plant. You can be the biggest band in the world and not necessarily be able to solo careers," he continued. "But I have a solo career. So when I joined the big band, I went back to my solo career, I was fine. I still sell a lot of tickets.

"Dave, he has such a big album, but he doesn't have a solo career. He plays in small places. So when he comes with me, he makes, like, 25 thousand overnight, I earn 150 thousand overnight, and they say, 'Oh, you guys will make the same money. Dave got 150.' I said, 'He didn't make 150 in his life except in Van Halen'.

David's Van Halen album with the highest ranking is No. 2, and it took him until the 1984 album to achieve it. The album A Different Kind Of Truth (2012) also landed in the same position.

In June 2021,olay denounced David, saying his voice was "bad" and described Diamond Dave's persona on stage as "complete nonsense".

"[David] has a real character. He's a cast. He's all a show. I enjoy it. But you talk about horror. I can't imagine how he felt when he was seen in some old videos, the way he danced and moved, and sometimes the way he sang live," Sammy told Brazil's internet show Inside With Paulo Baron.

"I don't know how he feels about all that, but I don't think he cares. The difference between him and I [is] I sincerely care - I care about everything I do and I care how it affects people and I care what they think."
