JAKARTA - The electro-pop duo fronted by Anindita Saryuf (Sistine) and Joseph Saryuf (Iyub), Santamonica comes with the Aquarius EP (mini album) consisting of two tracks, Aquarius and Wanderlust (Reimagined).
Aquarius is part of a series leading to the release of Santamonica's new album which will come this year. Santamonica plans a gradual release consisting of two singles each to cover the entire album.
The tracks on EP Aquarius are said by Iyub to be an almost forgotten 'treasure', in the form of song material in the archives of Santamonica's record studio since 2008 which was then reworked by the two, overall taking up to a dozen years of work.
Iyub also explained that he needed more than a decade to experiment until he finally got the sound of Santamonica that is now.
"Aquarius and Santamonica's new songs that will be released this year are the result of my growth and development as a musician, where I (and Santamonica) continue to transform and evolve, because Santamonica, which is now certainly not the same as in 2007 when making the album Curious & Curiouser," he said in an official statement.
Meanwhile, according to Sistine (pseudonym used by Anindita Saryuf as a musician), single Aquarius is a metaphor that tells a big story in the journey of human life, which can be understood differently for each person.
For most listeners, this song may be caught as a bitter sweet story of our love relationship and ideal expectations for it.
"Aquarius summarizes the journey of getting to know and making peace with oneself. Here the zodiacal Aquarius is just a symbol without referring to a specific figure," said Sistine.
Not only about love, but about life that always grows and forces us to become bigger than our comfort zone. Life cannot stay at one point continuously, and most importantly how we can accept changes, both fun and not as part of this journey.
