Review Album Eternal [Mogensoll]: Flavor Travel Towards Power

Have you ever felt sleepy listening to metal music? If so, does that impression make metal music seem bad? The answer can be seen through a series of sentences below.

Since Mogensoll arrived on the national music scene, references to the post-metal genre which are still relatively rare in Indonesia have increased. Not without reason. Apart from being a foreigner to most metal music lovers, this genre also emphasizes atmospheric and emotional play on songs. It could be that these two factors make Indonesian musicians afraid to carry this genre.

For this reason, we first want to appreciate what Morgensoll offered through the album Eternal which was released at the end of January. Because, apart from courage, the quality of the composition in this album is also attractive.

This album only has four instrumental songs. However, the duration reaches approximately 40 minutes where each song has its own title.

But keep in mind. We didn't read all the song titles on this album when it was rotated it to the point of running out. Because, by doing that, we are not limited by the title when listening to it. So, indirectly, we handcuffed the interpretation space in our senses.

Just go ahead. Starting from the first track, namely Adhiapora. When the ambience was being built slowly, suddenly the roar of the guitar was thick and full of eardrums. However, strangely enough, the impression that was obtained was peace. It made us a little sleepy. Moreover, this song closed with a magnificent outro.

Fortunately, we were awakened by a second song called Familier Changes. This time it started with a darker feel and was accompanied by whispering sounds so that the atmosphere became more tense. For some reason, in this part we feel like we are smoked into an endless hole.

Ekrig's vocal scream (Avhath) aka Satans Heir in this song sounds like musical instrument. However, it's a shame there are no written lyrics. Moreover, the vocals are screaming. It's useless if you want to convey messages through vocals, but instead don't include lyrics. As a result, in the end, we captured this song message in the language of music as well.

Then, towards the end of the song, the sound of the guitar feels more noisy to produce endings that connect to the next song, Euthanasia. For information, euphanasia is an act that aims to eliminate someone's suffering by ending someone's life. Without reading the meaning of the word first, we felt shed when we heard this song.

The drum instrument in this song has a more dynamic tempo. It should be admitted, Bagas is very skilled at accenting this song. Towards the end, a feeling of thinness immediately disappeared and changed into a form of reflection.

The change of taste was also felt through the next song which means realizing', namely Getun. In this song, we feel deep pain. However, towards the end of the song, the taste turned into a form of sincerity. We also have big questions through the transformation of the taste. Especially in the day 11:40 to 15:02 we really felt the regret.

However, if combined with the journey of the taste of the first song to the last, it seems that this album tells the story of a person who is thinking about a decision carefully to end the problems in his life until he finally decides to commit suicide.

By doing that, he sincerely left everything. But, on the other hand, he also regrets it. Because, when he was heading for irreversibility, it turned out that he felt much more terrible than his life in the world. Yes, that's just our interpretation of this album.

But, what is clear, this album has great sound processing techniques. And if you listen to it at night closing your eyes, this album feels even more blasphemous.

In addition, we also didn't expect, Bagas (drums), which usually plays at a faster tempo on hardcore songs, in this album can give the accent according to the dose for the sustainability of the built atmosphere.

Thus, it is proven that Morgensoll shows more expertise in playing the atmosphere and concepts, rather than only providing complicated drum fillings, riffs, or lead guitars to make it seem jago.
