JAKARTA - Those who took part in Chris Shiflett's modern guitarist - outside of his role with Foo Fighters - must already know his musical mission in bringing together SoCal's rock roots and Nashville' influence to create fresh new sound.

Rockers influenced by country music call for some of Nashville's best practitioners from rock-hit countries, Jaren Johnston (The Cadillac Three) and John Osborne (Brothers Osborne), to join their new single, Black Top White Lines.

In the initial writing session, the three continued to throw rows after row until the story was mapped out. Without leaking the final part for anyone, Shiflett hinted, "Thematically it feels like a little bit changing the classic country's metaphor."

Arriving after Born & Raised (2022) and Long Year, the song Black Top White Lines opened with a simultaneous guitar wall and never stopped. A thick pile of different guitar tones (some of which were performed by season guitarist Tom Bukovac and multi-instrumentalist Charlie Worsham) riding a pulsed groove provided by drums and bass with a lead click that marks a bar between each pass.

Written with Johnston and Osborne via Zoom in mid-2020, only after Shifllett and Johnston thought of which songs to record, they realized how cool Black Top White Lines was.

"Jaren and I discussed song ideas, and it's been a minute since we wrote them down, so when we revisited the song, he said, 'Bung, you have to record this one... This is incredible!'," recalls Shiflett quoted from Blabbermouth. "Immediately in the studio I know this song turned a little left for me musically, but that's also what I like."

Black Top White Lines is the first song from Shiflett's new album to be released this year through its new label home on Bluetan Records, a Los Angeles-based independent label celebrating its ninth anniversary this year.

Fans will hear more about Johnston's studio album in the coming months, but can rely on an album that represents Shiflett's vision that is fully realized to connect LA to Nashville.

"Most of my inspiration for working with Jaren on this tape is because I knew he would push me out of my comfort zone into a new area," said Shiflett.
