JAKARTA - In a new interview withUL Winiberg of "The Heavy Hooks Show", Dream Theater founder drummer Mike Portnoy revealed his openness to returning to play with his former band.
Progressive metal giant Dream Theater will celebrate its 40th birthday in 2025. Winiberg asked if Portnoy would consider playing a one-time show as Dream Theater's'rented weapon'.
"Well, I would definitely welcome the idea - of course - and I have told my friends that, depending on the circumstances. Obviously, there are many hypothetical circumstances," Portnoy said.
"I don't know if I want to be a'rential weapon' for a band that I shape; [it's] a bit of a strange term in that regard. But if you ask, would you like to play with them again? Of course. If the right hypothetical situation appears, yes, of course. I'm always open to it," portnoy continued.
Two and a half years ago, Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci released his second solo album, Terminal Velocity, via Sound Mind Music/The Orchard. This follow-up to Suspended Animation (2005) features guest musicians Portnoy on drums and Dave LaRue (Dixie Drags) on bass.
The album marks the first time Petrucci and Portnoy have recorded material together in more than a decade, and the first time they have played together since Portnoy left Dream Thetaer.
