JAKARTA - Even though I was sick, Iwan Panjang surprisingly went on stage, taking over the position of DD Crow. Iwan Achtandi, as his full name is, has suffered a stroke since 2019. That night, at the Hard Rock Cafe Jakarta, he played guitar in the song Dark.

We may see the lack of perfection of Iwan's guitar playing in ROXX's 35-year concert - also the launching of Black's album which was re-released in CD format by the Room of Music ID and Total Metal Music - on Tuesday, August 30. But, that's not the point. Let's focus on Iwan's great spirit. Fresh rock n' roll never goes silent in his soul.

Iwan proved to the rock and metal audience that gaps the Hard Rock Cafe, that he cannot be separated from ROXX. He is one of the axes that makes the loud music unit that destroys the eardrums continue to light up.

A few days before the concert was held, DD Crow revealed to the author: "I'm sick. If Iwan can come, maybe he can play one or two songs," said DD on the sidelines of the ROXX training session, without giving certainty.

Meanwhile, Rully Worotikan, an additional guitarist who replaced Jaya, was even a little surprised and amazed when he saw Iwan arriving at Hard Rock Cafe with his friend who was carrying a guitar inside the hardcase.

"Iwan so playing?" asked the author to Rully.

"Honestly, until now I don't know," responded the guitarist of the OMNI band.

In fact, the owner of this typical tone and magic lits doesn't want to just come and sit quietly without inviting fans to reminisce.

The music career of ROXX has been flowing since April 1, 1987 with the initial formations consisting of Arry Yanuar (drum), Jaya (guitar), Iwan Panjang (guitar), Trison Manurung (vocals) and Tonny 'Monot' (bass). After releasing the album Black (1992), Monot withdrew to continue his studies in Germany.

After being replaced by Didik Orange in the Nol album (1995), Monot returned to ROXX and was involved in making the album Bergema Again (2004). The bassist survived until now. In 1999, Arry died. Trison also joined Edane and was involved in making the album 170 Volts (2002).

Long before, in 1995, Iwan had already withdrawn due to suffering from a mental disorder. All members of the band were confused by this condition. The reason is, Iwan is the only member of Roxx who is the most clean of drugs. Regarding the departure from ROXX, Iwan reasoned that he wanted to take care of the state because there would be a coup. It sounded strange, but, three years later what Iwan said really happened. Indonesia was chaotic. The economic crisis and unrest everywhere until finally Suharto stepped down from the presidential seat.

Iwan is the hope of a family with all their higher educational backgrounds. However, his parents were disappointed with Iwan's condition until they finally died because they thought about his son's condition.

Since leaving ROXX, Iwan has practically never mingled with a guitar. He only stretches his fingers virtually in front of the mirror. But, the magic is, when Jaya invited him to play at The Rock Cafe in 2009, Iwan's game didn't weaken at all.

"Even though he hasn't been playing guitar for 14 years. For recordings, he's been absent for 17 years and only about 6 months ago (before recording an album Far from God 2012) he had a guitar again. When he was asked to take a guitar change," explained Jaya in an interview with GirarPlus magazine in 2012.Jaya admits how difficult it is to take care of Iwan. This unique guitarist sometimes likes to disappear, even though it's a guitar recording schedule day. Or, he also said 'what did ROXX still exist? Do it or not!' and suddenly he refused to take. Ribet! However, DD Crow admitted, Iwan was an encouragement. With Iwan, even though he only talked to himself while smoking and didn't do anything, ROXX could make something - say a song. DD Crow itself replaces Iwan in the album Bergema Again (2004) and survives until now. He also took part in the album Far from God (2012) and Anthem (2017).

Back to Hard Rock Cafe. That night, ROXX appeared in Trison (vocal), Tonny 'Monot' (bass), DD Crow (guitar) and two additial player; Adhytia Perkasa (drum, Siksakburu) and Rully Worotikan (guitar, OMNI) echoed a total of 10 songs.

Opened with Gontai and completely covered by one of the most legendary rock and roll anthems, Rock Bergema. Other songs include Dari Dulu, Price, Anthem, Dark, Mr. J and mediate featuring Didik Orange on bass, as well as Muak, and 5 cm.

In the middle of the concert, Trison called guitar maestro Eet Sjahranie to play the song You Remember Everything? (You Maniz Kau Ibliz) from Edane. This song was taken from the album 170 Volts when Trison served as vocalist.

By 23:00, the concert was over. The only stain was one of the audience who got on the stage on the final song. Singing throughout the song while blocking another audience behind him. The rest, the concert left nostalgia in the endless rock and roll excitement.
