JAKARTA - It is not an easy matter to keep the band working for 27 years. The punk rock band Superman Is Dead (SID) said that one of the recipes for continuing to work together for a long time is a commitment to survive or not disband as a band.

“Our tips for staying together is that we don't break up. Don't let it disband," said bassist Eka Rock as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, August 22.

Drummer, Jerinx added that the answer may sound a bit naive, but to reach the level of 'don't disperse' requires a high level of compromise between individuals.

For the three personnel, it is important to have an attitude of putting aside personal ego and respect for each other so that SID personnel stay together and never change personnel.

Luckily, Jerinx added, the three have rarely seen each other since 2006, after the album “Black Market Love” was released, because they each have their own personal lives, such as having a family to running their own business. This, said Jerinx, actually became something good for them to maintain the cohesiveness of the band.

“Because if you meet too often every day, there is something called cabin fever, it's like if you are stuck with the same people for several months every day, there will definitely be divisions, there will be conflicts. And at SID it almost never happens,” he said.

Even though they don't see each other often, Bobby admits that the three of them still find fun moments when they meet again to discuss new works and concepts. Meanwhile, for Eka, SID's cohesiveness feels like family.

According to Jerinx, SID's 27th year feels like being born again. Moreover, they have also prepared a number of new works made since the pandemic, such as the works that Jerinx recorded while in prison.

“Since this pandemic, we have received a lot of inspiration, how is human psychology, how about the true nature of humans, what is the nature of our friends who we have considered friends. It really gives a lot of references for lyric material," he said.

During his 27-year career at SID, Jerinx expressed his gratitude especially for the support of music producer Jan Djuhana who "found" the band and opened the door to join the big label that has been behind them for 13 years, namely Sony Music Indonesia.

Even if it wasn't for Jan, Jerinx added, the song "Punk Today" might not be as iconic as it is now because it was Jan who chose the song as SID's first release from the album "Kuta Rock City" (2003).

“The song does have its power. Mr. Jan's ears are really needed. It is the ears of a visionary person like Pak Jan to know," he said.

Jan, who was also present virtually on Thursday, hoped that SID would maintain cohesiveness for decades to come. He admitted that he was amazed at the achievements of SID, who entered the age of 27.

“Uniting three hearts is not easy, but it turns out you can do it until your 27th birthday. I hope that you will have a 30th birthday, 40th and 50th birthday, like any bands in the world, like Rolling Stone, who stay together," said Jan.

This year, the cooperation contract between SID and Sony Music ended. The Bali-based band decided to go back independent and plan to create their own management. The last work with Sony Music comes in the form of a video clip entitled "About Three" which is planned to be released in the near future through SID's YouTube channel.
