JAKARTA - The European automotive market has returned to the arrival of one of the electric models at affordable prices, this time from BYD named Dolphin Surf which will go on sale in the UK later this year.

The model, known as Seagull in the Chinese market, is claimed to have a number of advanced technologies suitable for offer in the European and UK markets including additional safety systems.

Launching from Autocar, Thursday, May 20, this small hatchback is expected to sell for no less than 15,000 pounds (Rp 322.2 million) but is 20,000 lower (Rp 429.6 million), so it will compete with a number of models such as Fiat Grande Panda, Citroen e-C3, and Dacia Spring.

Although it will be priced at affordable prices, manufacturers claim this model is not the cheapest but will be a vehicle that customers in Europe deserve to buy.

Specifications on the UK market have not been disclosed, but it is estimated BYD will use configurations such as the Chinese market.

As an illustration, the model is offered with two different battery options, namely 30 kWh with a distance of 190 miles or the equivalent of 305 km and 38 kWh with 252 miles or about 405 km according to the CLTC cycle.

Meanwhile, BYD Dolphin Surf is available in two choices of electric motorcycles with 74 hp and 100 hp for the British market.

Prior to the presence of Dolphin Surf, the manufacturer from China will soon launch Sealion 7 as the seventh model in the BYD ranks in the UK or including the sixth electric car offered in the country.

To support sales from Dolphin Surf, BYD will increase the number of dealers from 62 to 120 by the end of this year. The company has long-term targets of around 150 to 170 dealers to be available across the UK.
