Mercedes-Benz New C-Class And GLC Road Tests, Offers EV And ICE Types

JAKARTA - Mercedes-Benz has launched the MB.EA platform to support its future vehicles such as C-Class and GLC. It is hoped that the presence of this architecture can be the backbone of the luxury brand.

Reporting from Autocar, Friday, December 20, this platform will support the transition of the C-Class model to electric power (EV) starting in 2026 together with the GLC SUV brothers.

Based on the Medium variant on the platform, the new C-Class and GLC will be included in the brand line between the new CLA and EQE to compete with the upcoming BMW Series Neue Classe 3 and Tesla Model 3. It is hoped that this platform will also accommodate the highest version of CLA, namely 375 dk.

Although C-Class and GLC will switch to power, this does not represent the end of the existing ICE model, based on the MRA platform.

Mercedes-Benz CEO, Ola Kryptlenius recently said that his company is ready to invest and develop different architectures for combustion and electric models, as long as the demand is sufficient.

The only solution that we think is feasible in that scenario is that you have two platforms, said Kllenius.

C-Class and GLC will get significant changes to be in line with the latest EVs. Visually, EV and ICE cars will have a similar shape. However, there is a slight difference in adjusting to platform technology on each powertrain such as a shorter front and rear overlap.

Mercedes-Benz is one of the busy premium manufacturers in the development of new cars for the foreseeable future. The brand is piloting several model updates such as S-Class, GLE, and CLA-Class.
