JAKARTA - PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) inaugurated the launch of the all-new Santa Fe last October for the national market as well as a marker of the company's work to market hybrid vehicle lines.

Previously, the VOI team had the opportunity to compress the short driving of this SUV at its launch last October. Now, we are invited by HMID to experience two days of driving at the Hyundai Media Drive: Live BIG with The All-new Santa Fe which took place in Bandung.

At this event, we rode two different machines, namely 2.5 liters naturally-assisted (NA) in the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) Calligraphy type on the first day and 1.6 liters of Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) which also had the Calligraphy type on Thursday, December 5 to Friday, December 6.

What do you think it's like to walk in Kembang City with all-new Santa Fe? Here's the review.

Brave Boxy Design

The fifth generation of Santa Fe has a more solid look at each corner. The front looks more dashing with LED headlights in the distinctive 'H' shape. From the front to the back, the SUV offers a striking 'boxy' design.

The side is decorated with premium and tough overfenders, combined with 21-inch alloy rims on Calligraphy type with a distinctive multi-palang design.

The back has a large tailgate. When opened, this car provides a lot of space that can be used to sit, relax, or put a lot of stuff for use on a long journey. Just like the front, the rear light also has a distinctive 'H' pattern lighting.

On the first day of the journey, we tested the all-new Santa Fe type ICE Calligraphy with a dashing Midnight Black Pearl color and then on the second day we rode the HEV Calligraphy with an elegant Optic White Matte color choice.

Typical Comfort Of Premium SUVs And Abundant Features

The journey around Bandung started with Ambrogio's restaurant, Bandung. At the beginning of the trip, the VOI team had the opportunity to drive this car. The cut and suspension of this car felt soft and comfortable.

For the ICE variant, the 2.5 liter NA engine from the all-new Santa Fe can be seen very clearly from inside the cabin. Unlike a hybrid whose engine sound is not heard at all when the car is turned on.

Just like other Hyundai ranks, the steering wheel from the SUV is very delicious to hold thanks to a comfortable layer of material. However, what distinguishes it is that the steering wheel from Santa Fe is larger and more solid.

In the middle of the trip, it was VOI team's turn to switch to become passengers in the front seat for a trip to the Sensa Hotel inn. While enjoying the cold air of Bandung city, we took advantage of a number of features including Heated & Ventilated Seat which can raise or lower the temperature on the seat as desired.

The comfort of this car is increasingly optimized by the presence of Nappa Leather on seats and other seat layers.

However, there is one note on this car that can be repaired. When this car crosses the rainy conditions in Bandung, the sound of rainwater is still clearly heard in the cabin. Thus, this car can be further developed in terms of interior compactness.

Challenging Trip To Kamojang Crater

On the second day, the trip was continued from the Sensa Hotel inn to the Kamojang Crater area, Bandung. On the journey that took about 70 km, the VOI team now has the opportunity to experience the HEV Calligraphy all-new Santa Fe variant.

When the trip started, we had the opportunity to feel the second row of this SUV. Because this is a Calligraphy type, the car comes with a luxurious Captain Seat so we are spoiled all the way.

However, there is one note that needs to be highlighted from this car, namely the slightly rigid back suspension in its class. However, this can still be tolerated by the presence of several features such as ports for type-c device chargers, soft backs, seats, and others.

Approaching Kamojang tourist attractions, the VOI team again got the opportunity to drive an all-new Santa Fe type HEV Calligraphy.

Well, another feature offered in this car is the Downhill Brake Control (DBC) which is useful for helping drivers cross the steep descent path without having to control the brake pedal.

While in a steep descent area, we activate this feature and automatically the car is able to control the brakes safely without any interference from the driver.

Consumption of Efficient Fuel

During a trip in Bandung City with the all-new Santa Fe, this car produces efficient fuel consumption in its class.

In the pure ICE variant, the car provides a combined fuel consumption of around 15-17 km/l. Meanwhile, on the second day with the HEV Calligraphy type, all-new Santa Fe has about 20 km/l of fuel consumption while proving the superiority of a hybrid car.

Competitive Prices

The car has been officially sold in Indonesia consisting of two powertrains, namely ICE with Prime type worth IDR 699 million and Calligraphy IDR 784.5 million. Meanwhile, HEV types are sold starting from IDR 786.3 million for Prime and IDR 869.6 million for Calligraphy.

Conclusion

HMID successfully made another breakthrough in the electrification market by introducing its first hybrid vehicle in Indonesia, the all-new Santa Fe. In addition, the car is also a local assembled at the Cikarang factory, West Java.

With competitive prices in segment D, the VOI team assessed that Santa Fe's all-new could be taken into consideration for buyers who want a wide-dimensional car but offer a fuel-efficient hybrid system for city and intercity travel.
