Profits Of The TNGA-F Platform, Toyota Considers Presenting Land Cruiser PHEV And Hydrogen

JAKARTA - Toyota has launched the latest generation from the Land Cruiser in early August, which offers a touch different from before. Despite maintaining its iconic courage and rigidity, this time this Japanese manufacturer presented a car with a more classic and tough look than a luxurious concept.

Despite the latest Land Cruiser design style reminiscent of the past, Toyota has integrated advanced technology into this car. The main advantage is the use of hybrid systems in its latest generation.

Each variant of the Land Cruiser 2024 is powered by a four-cylindrical 2.4-liter hybrid powertrain which is increased by turbocharger, capable of producing a maximum power of 326 horse power and torque of 630 Nm.

The strength of four wheels or 4WD is combined with the transmission of eight accelerations, providing optimal performance when exploring off-road terrain. As a hybrid car, the Land Cruiser 2024 is also equipped with a 1.87 kWh type NiMH battery, which helps increase fuel efficiency.

Building the Land Cruiser 2024 is in line with Toyota's efforts to switch to electrification, in accordance with increasingly stringent emission regulations towards the end of the decade. However, Toyota has even greater plans for adopting environmentally friendly technology.

Keita Moritsu, Chief Engineer of Land Cruiser, explained that the latest generation of Land Cruiser uses the TNGA-F platform. This allows this car to host a variety of other technologies, including Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV), hydrogen technology, and electricity.

"We need to think of a comprehensive approach," Moritsu said as quoted by Automotive News, Friday, August 11.

Although this platform can support various powertrain technologies, the TNGA-F must be adjusted in order to be able to accommodate this system efficiently and reliably.

About the use of pure electricity, this option will help reduce exhaust emissions and accelerate the transition to electric vehicles. However, given that Land Cruiser is more focused on off-road performance than in urban areas, this option may be less ideal.

Toyota remains committed to exploring alternative energy other than electricity, including hydrogen technology. Despite having good reach such as electric vehicles, this technology still requires a lot of special development, so it is not yet fully efficient. In addition, the lack of hydrogen fuel infrastructure is also an obstacle.

While Toyota has yet to officially announce its price, preliminary forecasts suggest that the Land Cruiser 2024 will be offered at a price below $50,000, starting from the lowest variant of 1958, then Land Cruiser, to First Edition.
