4 Indonesian Designers Show Off At NYIFW 2023 Introduce Nusantara Weaving

JAKARTA - New York Indonesia Fashion Week aka NYIFW 2023 has been going on since September 6. A total of 4 designers from Indonesia took part in showing their work which was held at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).

"On September 7, the showcase at the Fashion Institute of Technology," said NYIFW founder and producer Vanny Toussignant, quoted on Sunday, September 10.

Vanny explained that the four designers introduced woven fabrics to the international community during a demonstration at FIT.

He also said that these four designers did not only do fashion shows but also to provide education.

"So choosing from 7 designers can only take 4 designers. What we see is not about being smart in designing clothes but mastering the wealth of wastra nusantara. Are the nusantara fabrics they brought to New York? That's a criterion for entering the Fashion Institute of Technology during NYIFW. At first I wanted five designers but it turned out that only four designers were qualified according to the FIT criteria," he said.

"These four designers are not seen how they design clothes but what they bring from Indonesia to New York. From which area the weaving comes and what their originality is. So it looks like NYIFW's identity, that we not only bring designers for fashion shows in New York and then return to Indonesia, but we also want to educate the American people about the wealth of the archipelago wastra, batik and Indonesian weaving. This is a golden opportunity to promote the archipelago wastra to the world, "he continued.
