Researchers also suggest that maintaining vitamin D intake by taking supplements earlier, before cognitive decline occurs, may provide a protective benefit from dementia.

"Overall, we found evidence to suggest that keeping supplements early is beneficial prior to cognitive decline," added Zahinoor Ismail.
