Rick Rubin Calls Paul McCartney Best Bassis: He's Number One

JAKARTA - Rick Rubin says Paul McCartney is the best bassist. What's the reason?

Speaking to MOJO magazine, Rubin said McCartney was the best bass player of all time and he was shocked by the approach former Beatles bassist took in writing songs.

Rubin has teamed up with McCartney in a mini-series release in 2021, McCartney 3, 2, 1.

"I was thinking about how everything I saw, related to the Beatles, about songwriting or Beatlemania," Rubin told the magazine, quoted Monday.

Paul McCartney the bass player, or Paul McCartney the musician, because he plays everything that's a little story.

"You just think of him as Beatle Paul, but in my opinion, he is the best of all the bass players, he is number one."

The producer went on to see how amazed he was that the 80-year-old music icon had the "most simple" approach to writing mega-hits.

"What surprised me was when he sat in front of the piano and he started showing me how to write the song," Rubin continued.

He said, 'Look, you can be like this', and what he showed me was the simplest thing, but then he started moving his finger a little bit, and suddenly turned into Hey Jude or Let It Be. He used techniques that any kid can do, then turned into one of the greatest songs of all time!
