36 Years Goes Missing And Stolen, Steve Vai's 'Swiss Cheese' Guitar Found In Loteng A House In Mexico

JAKARTA - Steve Vai has reunited with his "Swiss Cheese" guitar, which was stolen from California's training room in 1986.

The guitar, which was originally used in a video for David Lee Roth's target Rose, and will be taken off on a summer tour, was returned to the guitarist after being found in the attic of a house intensive Mexico.

On Saturday, January 14, Steve through his social media shared a photo of himself with the guitar.

"Going back together, and it feels really good. Surprisingly, after being lost for 36 and a half years. Then, my custom guitar Joe Despagni 'Switzerland' was finally returned to me," Steve said.

"This guitar was made especially for me by Joe Despagni. Joe was my best friend in life growing up and he made me some of the fiercest guitars like Flame guitar, Lightning Bolt, this Swiss Cheese guitar, ZNG ZNG, and his last work he made for me before he died, Theadolite. He worked with Rob's brother on a lot of these guitars."

Vai spent several years as a guitarist in David Lee Roth's solo band after he left Van Halen with former Talas bassist Billy Sheehan and drummer Gregg Bissonette.

Vai played with Roth on the album Eat 'Em And Smile (1996) as well as his follow-up album Skystraper (1988).

Eat 'Em And Smile is the first of Roth's two albums featuring duo Vai and Billy Sheehan on guitar and bass. Throughout the album, the two often traded complicated skills such as songs such as
