JAKARTA - Call it luck or bad luck, but Godsmack's newest single, Surdender beat the new single giant thrash metal, Metallica, Lux Aetherna at the top of the Billboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay charts.

Although these two bands have little in common most of the types of generational and continental geography but there is something that stands out the most from them; the latest full album is on its way after some time away from the spotlight.

Metallica will release a full 72 Seasons album on April 14, while Godsmack is ready to release Lighting Up the Sky on February 24.

In a recent interview, quoted by Metal Injection, Godsmack drummer Shannon Larkin has an interesting opinion of the two singles. Especially related to their position on the Billboard charts.

"In the real world, Metallica is the legitimate heir to slot No. 1 in hard rock," Larkin said. "They deserve to be No. 1. I listen to the song... I was like, 'Wow'. And it sounds like Motorhead... James [Hetfield] sings quite high in that refrene section. I think it sounds fantastic. I heard it on the radio."

However, Larkin made a bold comment by saying Metallica's new song, Lux Aterna, is not even worthy of being included in the Top 40 if it's a song belonging to another band.

"If there was a new band with the song Lux Aterna, nonsense! It won't be No. 2. Maybe even not in the Top 40. Who knows?" Larkin hypothesized.

"Even if it's a good song. But because it's Metallica, they can do that on the radio and put out songs that sound like Motorhead, basically - double bass and so on. They can do it because they came to power in the 80s."
