JAKARTA - South Korean film industry's accumulative revenue this year has reportedly surpassed 1 trillion won for the first time after struggling to survive the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Citing The Korea Herald which was broadcast on Sunday, December 18 local time, the Korean Film Council recorded details of total revenue from January to November of 1.26 trillion won or around Rp. 15 trillion. That figure is up 100.5 percent or up 502.5 billion won compared to last year.
The increase in revenue was largely driven by a number of films released targeting moviegoers during the summer and the Chuseok holiday season.
The sequel to the action of The Roundup, which was launched last May, is the first contributor to the increase in South Korean film industry revenue with an accumulation of 12.6 million tickets.
