JAKARTA - If you are classified as those who are afraid to face social situations, try to be kind to others. A study in Springer's journal Motivation and Motion, shows that being good can help people with social anxiety more easily get along.

In the study, Jennifer Trew of Simon Fraser University and Lynn Alden of the University of British Columbia, expressed social anxiety more than just shame dealing with the public.

Patients will generally avoid relationships. Even though this condition can prevent sufferers from experiencing shame, they lose support and intimacy with relationships with others.

They also have fewer friends, feel insecure when interacting with other people and never have a close relationship with other people. Researchers say being good can increase happiness and trigger broad positive interactions.

In addition, it can help those experiencing social anxiety more easily. To come to this conclusion, researchers researched 115 students who experienced high level of social anxiety.

The 115 people were then randomly divided into three groups during the four weeks of intervention period. One group is asked to be kind to others, for example preparing food for their colleagues or carrying out charity activities.

While one other group is only asked to carry out social interactions without having to act properly. Then, the last group, was not asked to do anything. Research results show that those who behave well with others have reduced their desire to stay away from social situations.

"Good attitude can help reduce the level of social anxiety and make patients reduce their desire to stay away from social situations," Trew said as reported by Science Daily.
