JAKARTA - Director and writer Rian Johnson, as well as the line-up shared their exciting story when making the film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which will soon air at the end of next month on Netflix. For Johnson, it's always nice to be able to make a film with the mystery genre of murder (munder mystery) with actor Daniel Craig as Detective character Beniot Blanc, since his first appearance at Knives Out (2019).
"Even though it's challenging, we experienced a lot of fun things during the production process of this second film. I also think that it would be so exciting to keep making (seluel) this film. However, making a sequel doesn't mean continuing the story from the first film, but how do we treat this new story like Agatha Christie creates another mystery in his next books," Johnson said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 15.
Furthermore, he admitted that he was very inspired by the works of Christie. According to Johnson, the legendary writer dared to create new mysteries in such diverse backgrounds and figures.
"He (Christie) isn't just talking about 'who did it (murder)', however, also dares to mix genres, take a fresh narrative approach, and that makes every story so new," Johnson said.
During the production process, Johnson said the energy of each actor was very positive and sparked each other's spirits. Moreover, the shooting process was carried out amidst restrictions due to COVID-19.
Agreeing, actress Kathryn Hahn and Edward Norton describes the production process of "Class Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" as well as theater performances with a diverse and competent group of players.
"We spent a lot of time together, and the presence (of other actors and crew) made it look like a theater asset," said Hahn.
"It feels like a summer theater, where we, adults play in costumes and perform a fun show," added Norton.
On the other hand, Janelle Monáe admits she is honored to be working with Johnson and the other players in this film. For the characters he played, Monáe said this character challenged and made him develop as an actor.
"This character has many layers, and is very mysterious. I feel like I have the opportunity to grow up to be an actor and have fun when working with everyone involved," said the woman who is also the singer.
Meanwhile, "Class Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" will air on December 23 on the Netflix streaming platform.
The film will follow Detective Blanc (Crag) who went to Greece to explore a new mystery and a series of new characters who suspect the perpetrators of the crime.
