The Mystery Of Composer Frédéric Chopin's Gay Love Letters That Sparks Debate

JAKARTA - Swiss journalist Moritz Weber caused chaos in Poland this week in a radio broadcast entitled Chopin's Men.

Frédéric Chopin remains an icon in the country of his birth nearly two centuries after his death. The country, known for its homophobia, glorifies the composer as a national icon.

The name Frédéric Chopin adorns Warsaw's largest airport as well as parks, roads and public buildings. Following the success of some of his early musical compositions, Chopin left Warsaw for Paris and never returned.

However, as one of the earliest musical celebrities, Poland proclaimed him a national hero after his death.

Although Chopin never married, films and books over the years resulted in his many romantic attachments with various women. However, Moritz Weber said he could not find any concrete evidence of Chopin's relationship with women.

Even the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Poland admits there is no written evidence to suggest that the composer was crazy about women. They rely on anecdotal evidence from members of the Chopin family.

The only correspondence that has ever been found between the composer and his romantic attachments to women has turned out to be fake!

However, Weber found ample evidence of homoerotism (same-sex attraction) content in the composer's correspondence.

Chopin often wrote to his childhood friend Tytus Wojciechowski, calling him 'the darling of my life' and closing the caption with the words 'Send me a kiss, dear lover'.

In one letter, he did not doubt his feelings for his friend at all.

“You don't like being kissed. Please, let me do it today. You have to pay me for the dirty dream I had about you last night. "

In contrast, the Fryderyk Chopin Institute does not see this as an indication of homosexuality.

"If you read it in the original Polish, it sounds a little different," said the Fryderyk Chopin Institute to launch qnews.com.

"The way Chopin uses language is so musical and complex, to translate all of it is madness."
