JAKARTA - The film Seoul Vibe starts airing on Netflix starting Friday, August 26. The film, starring Yoo Ah In, shows the enthusiasm of South Korean youth with a thrilling car chase on the streets of Seoul, set in 1988.

"Seoul Vibe displayed the enthusiasm and challenges of young people and their conflict with the old generation in the late 1980s. I think it would be nice to reminisce about the atmosphere of that era while watching the film," Yoo said as quoted by Yonhap.

It was set in 1988 when the whole country was in high spirits ahead of the 1988 Summer Olympics. The Seoul Vibe is about a group of automotive enthusiasts involved in the country's investigation to reveal the truth behind the flow of dark funds involving an important person.

The 1988 background captures the atmosphere as South Korea prepares to host the Summer Olympics. Yoo plays the character Dong-wook, dubbed the best driver, who receives a high-risk mission.

"Dong-wook is very different from me. He is very striking. He admires American culture and doubts about living in America. However, he is quite excited to try to make his dreams come true," Yoo said of his character quoted by ANTARA.

To play a character who has a dream of competing in 24 Hours of Guinea, a well-known endurance racing race in the US, the 35-year-old actor has learned sports car driving before filming.

"I'm trying to get used to driving techniques like Drifting on a racing circuit. During filming, I had a rare opportunity to drive an old car model, such as Hyundai totaling, Sonata, and Grandeur. That's amazing," he said.

The character Dong-wook in Seoul Vibe is told to lead groups with various backgrounds, dubbed the Sanggye-dong Supreme team. According to Yoo, members of this group include Go Kyung-pyo, Lee Kyu-hyung and Ong Seong-wu, who have created better chemistry on screens than expected.

"When I read the Seoul Vibe script, I thought it was worth being challenged. After hearing the actors involved, I thought I was confident to continue the project with these actors," he said.

The Seoul Vibe film is Yoo's second Netflix project after the horror series stopian Hellbound (2021) directed by Yeon Sang-ho. Yoo became the famous South Korean actor, he won the best actor award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards last year for the film Voice of Silence (2020).
