Hwang Dong Hyuk Reveals Plans For The Squid Game Serial Universe

JAKARTA - Director Hwang Dong Hyuk revealed his plans to develop the Squid Game series. Success with his first season, he did not want to stop through the next season.

Dong Hyuk explained that he wrote the series with a Korean background. But he had the intention to put the Squid Game story in another part of the world.

“Actually that was my intention from the start. I wrote the script as a hint that the Squid Game also takes place in other parts of the world," Hwang Dong Hyuk told Deadline.

“You can see in the conversation scenes of the VIP guests. They said the Korean games this year were spectacular, which means there are games (in other countries)," he explained.

In the Squid Game series, VIP guests are told to make bets for 456 players. They also called the South Korean game this year very exciting.

"I think if the series is successful, I want to expand the universe wider so other countries can have other versions of the Squid Game," he said.

Hwang Dong Hyuk said this plan was being discussed. But he didn't know if this had anything to do with the second season, spin-offs and so on.

On the other hand, Hwang Dong Hyuk knows that Netflix is holding a Squid Game by inviting 456 players from all over the world. Like the series, cash will be the main prize for players.

The plan for this Squid Game event will be held in the United States and England in September. The concept will be made to resemble the series including the list of games.

“I heard they made a reality show, even accepted registrations. As the original creator, the fact that my story goes global and people make other interpretations is very pleasing,” said Hwang Dong Hyuk.
