Getting To Know M70D Rice Seeds That Can Harvest 70 Days, A Solution To Overcome Rice Scarcity

YOGYAKARTA – The scarcity of basic commodities has encouraged various government sectors to work to overcome them. The people directly experience the effects. One solution is to speed up the harvest of staple foods, such as rice.

Presidential Chief of Staff and General Chairperson of the HKTI DPP (Indonesian Farmers Association), General TNI (Ret.) Dr Moeldoko, S.Ip. initiating rice seeds which have a shorter planting period and can be harvested in 70 days. The superior seed is called the M70D.

Since last year, these superior rice seeds have been planted in a number of areas in Indonesia, including Buleleng, Gianyar, and Sukabumi. In March 2022, in Singapadu Kaled Village, Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency, harvesting on a land area of 40 acres. The harvest was attended directly by Dr Moeldoko with I Made Edi Irawan, Chairman of the Bali Province HKTI DPP.

At that moment, Moeldoko explained the advantages and disadvantages of the M70D rice seed. This rice seed, firstly, can be harvested in a shorter time. If other rice seeds take more than 90 days to harvest, M70D seeds can be harvested in between 70-75 days.

The second advantage of this seed is that it is not easily attacked by pests. Several stages of research were carried out to test the resistance of M70D rice to pests. Where pests are factors that often cannot be taken into account. Therefore, choosing rice seeds that are resistant to pest attacks is a solution to crop failure.

Furthermore, long research in creating the M70D superior seed resulted in quite a lot of yields. If planted in one hectare of agricultural land, it can get a rice yield of up to 8 tons. Another plus, cooked rice has a delicious and fluffier taste.

This superior rice seed titled M70D is not without reason. Moeldoko carried out his own research with the advantage that it was considered a solution to the scarcity of rice, namely harvesting in a short time or for 70 days.
