Alienoid Film Review, Genre Blend With Crazy Ideas

JAKARTA - South Korea's industrial efforts to dominate the world of science fiction. In 2021, there will be Space Sweepers that attracts public attention and is called the forerunner of the development of the science fiction genre in the land of ginseng.

This year, there is Alienoid, the latest film directed by Choi Dong Hoon which directs The Thieves and Assassination.

No half-hearted, in this comeback, Choi Dong Hoon presents a series of top South Korean stars, namely Ryu Jun Yeol, Kim Woo Bin, Kim Tae Ri, So Ji Sub, Yum Jung Ah, Jo Woo Jin, Kim Eui Sung, Lee Ha Nee and others.

Alienoid tells the story of a Guardian (Kim Woo Bin) who works to guard alien prisoners who live in human bodies. Once they managed to capture a prisoner from the 14th century and bring a human baby to the 21st century.

10 years on, some criminal prisoners accidentally escape to Earth and put Earth in danger.

Guards assisted by robot Thunder (Kim Dae Myung) work together to return alien prisoners to prison. The conflict between the Guardians and alien prisoners keeps a time portal open and connects the 14th and 21st centuries.

The 14th century in the era of Goryeo, a martial artist named Mureok (Ryu Jun Yeol) is looking for a legendary sword. Not only Mureok, the leader of the secret gang Jajang (Kim Eui Sung) is also looking for a sword with another purpose.

On the way, Mureok meets a mysterious woman named Lee Ahn (Kim Tae Ri) who is known to be good at using a gun.

Alienoid can be said to be a crazy idea with extraordinary execution. The premise of time teleportation may often be encountered in fantasy dramas. However, it is Choi Dong Hoon's job to make it better.

The storytelling of the 14th and 21st centuries is perfectly balanced with many characters that need to be explained. The shift of the plot between the past and the present is fun because it is accompanied by riveting action and comedy from the dialogue of the players.

It's hard to describe this because I'm worried that this article will become a spoiler. In addition, there are many surprises that are present throughout the story. Some of them are even familiar to Korean drama connoisseurs.

Regarding cinematography, Alienoid performed perfectly with various scenes that made the audience amazed. Not to mention, shoots made to strengthen characters, for example, Lee Ahn's actions to avoid attacks from enemies.

Especially when it comes to acting. The Alienoid cast ensemble comes with different acting from their previous characters. If Kim Woo Bin is known as a cold character, this time he looks different.

Likewise with Ryu Jun Yeol who is known for his role as a straight and consistent man. Through Alienoid, he plays an artist who is full of comedy.

Unfortunately, Alienoid's long duration still leaves many questions. Even with this film, there are still many characters that have not been explained.

Regardless, Alienoid is a great mix of genres with an engaging story. Watching this film can be a refreshing cinema experience.
