Still Can’t Accept The Fact, Amber Heard Files An Appeal Against The Result Of The Trial Against Johnny Depp

JAKARTA - Amber Heard's Attorneys filed an appeal in a Virginia court on Thursday, July 21. They are demanding a jury verdict in a multimillion-dollar defamation case in which she lost to her ex-husband, Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp.

"We believe the court made a mistake that prevented a fair ruling that is consistent with the First Amendment," a Heard spokesman said, referring to the constitutional amendments that protect free speech.

"Therefore, we are appealing the ruling," they said in a statement.

"While we recognize today's submission will cause a stir on Twitter, there are steps we need to take to ensure justice," he said.

A jury at a trial in Virginia last June ruled that Depp should be awarded $10 million in damages after ruling that a 2018 newspaper article Heard wrote was defamation.

Depp sued Heard over an anonymous Washington Post article, but in which Heard called himself a public figure representing domestic violence. Heard, who retaliated against, was ruled entitled to $2 million in damages.

The jury at the trial made the ruling after six weeks of trials fraught with domestic violence charges. The case, which was broadcast live via live streaming and watched by millions of people, reveals details of the Hollywood couple's private life.

Earlier this month, a judge rejected Heard's request for a new trial -- arguing that one of the seven jurors was not the person called to be on the jury but his son, in a case of mistaken identity.

Heard's attorneys had asked Penney Azcarate, the judge presiding over the trial, to override the jury's ruling and declare the trial annulled, but she rejected the request.
