YOGYAKARTA – Fasting Qadha is done by Muslims to replace the Ramadan fast that was left behind due to absence. When you can't fast in Ramadan, you can replace it on another day outside the month of Ramadan. But what about the intention to fast Qadha in the month of Dzulhijjah before Eid al-Adha?

Qadha fast needs to be done as soon as possible after Ramadan. Don't wait until next year's Ramadan but the fasting debt has not been paid. When fasting Qadha coincides with the sunnah fasting of the month of Dzulhijjah, according to the companions of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, Umar bin Khattab is of the opinion that fasting on the first 10 days of the month of Dhulhijjah is the best time. This means that it is permissible to fast the Qadha of Ramadan and to fast the Sunnah before Eid al-Adha.

Fasting Qadha Ramadan can be carried out on the same day when fasting the sunnah of Dzulhijjah before Eid al-Adha. However, the intention of fasting the Qadha of Ramadan and Eid al-Adha should not be mixed. This means that each of them needs to be read because they are carrying out two different fasts on the same day. Well, the intention of fasting needs to be recited before dawn or at dawn. The intention of fasting the Qadha of Ramadan:

نَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ غَدٍ عَنْ قَضَاءِ فَرْضِ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ لِلهِ ت

Nawaitu shauma ghadin 'an qadhā'ì fardhi syahri Ramadhāna lillâhi ta'âlâ.

Meaning: "I intend to make up the fast of Ramadan for the sake of Allah ta'ala."

For the intention of fasting for Eid al-Adha, it can be recited according to the sunnah fasting that is being carried out. Fasting sunnah in the month of Dzulhijjah ahead of Eid al-Adha

Fasting Dzulhijjah is a sunnah fasting that is carried out ten days before Eid al-Adha al-Adha and starting from the 1st of Dzulhijjah 1443 H. Fasting is carried out from sunrise to sunset by preventing various things that invalidate the fast, such as other fasting procedures.

Fasting sunnah in the month of Dzulhijjah has three virtues, among others, the reward is doubled, minor sins are removed, and freed from the torment of hell. There are three sunnah fasts in the ten days before Eid al-Adha, namely, this is the intention and the fast.

Intention to fast on 1-7 Dzulhijjah:

نَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ شَهْرِ ذِيْ الْحِجَّةِ سُنَّةً لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى

Nawaitu shauma syahri dzil hijjah sunnatan lillâhi ta'âlâ

Meaning: "I intend to fast the sunnah of the month of Dzulhijjah because of Allah ta'ala."

Intentions to fast on the 8th of Dzulhijjah or Tarwiyyah Fast:

نَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ تَرْوِيَةَ سُنَّةً لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى

Nawaitu shauma tarwiyata sunnatan lillâhi ta'âlâ

Meaning: "I intend to fast the sunnah of Tarwiyah because of Allah ta'ala."

Intention of fasting on the 9th of Dzulhijjah or Fasting Arafah:

نَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ تَرْوِيَةَ سُنَّةً لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى

Nawaitu shauma arafata sunnatan lillâhi ta'âlâ

Meaning: "I intend to fast the Sunnah of Arafah because of Allah ta'ala."

When fasting Qadha along with fasting Arafah, fasting intentions need to be said both. Including when carrying out other sunnah fasts with Qadha fasting to replace Ramadan fasting.
