In the Korean version, the players wear a traditional Korean mask called the Hahoe. Park Hae Soo as the actor of Berlin explains the meaning of the mask in this series.
“The (worn) mask has a message for the serial. In the Spanish version, the Dali mask is used to represent freedom, right," said Park Hae Soo at the Money Heist Korea press conference on Wednesday, June 22.
"In Korea, we use the Hahoe mask from Andong and there is a significant side to it," he continued.
The Squid Game actor calls Hahoe a symbol of power with a layer of humor in it. When he heard this meaning, Hae Soo felt something different when holding the mask.
“It embodies strong criticism, and has a sense of humor in it too,” replied Park Hae Soo.
“The first time the mask was brought to me, I felt a tremendous power when worn by the players. There are different angles from the middle and from the sides," explained Park Hae Soo.
The same thing was also agreed by Jun Jeong Seo who plays Tokyo. The Hahoe Mask has a strong appearance and is no less iconic than the original version.
“Even before filming started, we were curious about what masks we would be wearing. I was surprised because the mask had a big smile and a side of humor. There are many meanings to the mask," said Jun Jeong Seo.
Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area tells the story of the process of the unification of South Korea and North Korea. In the midst of that process, the group led by the Professor plans a major heist for the unreleased currency.
