Yuni And Nana's Film Entered Sydney Film Festival Selection, Here's The Screening Schedule In Australia

JAKARTA - Good news comes from Indonesian cinema. The young director, Kamila Andini informed that two of his films, Nana (Before, Now & Then) and Yuni passed the competition selection at the Sydney Film Festival.

Both films raised the theme of women's emancipation. Yuni's character is told as a teenage girl who has a great desire to go to college, but is shackled by the dogma of the surrounding community which requires her to get married immediately.

Yuni, who has rejected proposals from two men, also gets a negative stigma from those around her who believe that a woman who refuses proposals three times will never get married. Yuni remains brave to hold on to her convictions and keeps trying to achieve her dreams.

Meanwhile, Nana (Before, Now & Then) was adapted from the first chapter of the novel Jais Darga Namaku by Ahda Imran which tells the real life story of Raden Nana Sunani in West Java in the 1960s. This film stars Happy Salma, Laura Basuki, Arawanda Kirana, Ibnu Jamil, Arswendi Nasution, Rieke Diah Pitaloka and other artists.

“NANA and YUNI at @sydfilmfest . Nana (Before, Now & Then) will be in the Main Competition section," wrote Kamila on her Instagram, Monday, May 23.

The upload also lists the screening schedule for the two films. Screenings for Nana are scheduled for Tuesday, June 14, and Wednesday, June 15, at the State Theatre. Nana will also screen on Friday, June 15, at Event Cinemas George Street-Cinema 5.

Yuni's film opens Thursday, June 6, at Event Cinemas George Street Cinema 3 and June 18, at Dendy Newtown, Cinema 1.
