JAKARTA - Deaf model and YouTuber Amanda Farliany distributed an open letter to Grab Indonesia. She admitted that her husband, who is also deaf, received an unpleasant attitude recently.

"I'm disappointed in the BAD service to my husband @tonandaputra at the @grabid cakung partner registration area. Of course I can't accept that," wrote Amanda Farliany on Tuesday, April 26.

Discrimination

The incident began when the husband wanted to show an interview invitation letter to Grab partners. Tonan saw the staff responding curtly and asked him to read aloud.

"Until the test was called from afar, wow, it's impolite.. Even trying to be called again, clapping loudly as if testing his hearing, which is indeed deaf," he continued.

Tonan was surprised to hear that there were no vacancies for the Deaf. Even though he received an interview invitation at Grab. Not to mention the employee who called him deliberately stood behind Tonan so he could test Tonan's hearing.

“After that, they were told that there were no vacancies for the Deaf. Crap. I swear I'm really annoyed... But my husband, Tonan, isn't angry or offended, just disappointed that the service is bad," he said.

Grab Indonesia Response

After going viral on the internet, Grab Indonesia immediately released a statement stating that they were currently investigating the related employee. They hope something like this doesn't happen in the future.

"Grab deeply regrets what happened to one of Grab's prospective partners in Cakung on April 16, 2022," Grab wrote.

"Grab does not tolerate any form of discrimination and immediately takes the necessary steps so that something like this does not happen again," they continued.
