JAKARTA - Actor Bio One got the opportunity to play the character Gepeng in the film Srimulat: Hil the Mustahal. For the sake of his role, he is willing to change his physical form and explore the psychology of the character.

“I tried my best to stay in this role consistently while filming and it turned out to be not easy at all,” said Bio One at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday, April 22.

Bio One explained that he took many approaches to resemble Gepeng. Of course it is not easy but this role is a challenge as an actor.

“So Gepeng has many approaches. One of the most extreme things highlighted by the media is physical, why did my physique suddenly change? There is also a psychology he was in that era. What was the socio-political condition like, the work of artists who at that time did not succeed,” explained Bio One.

"Actually, Srimulat was a breakthrough for artists at that time, automatically I did research. Starting from the smallest social circle, family, friends, finally the community - how people see him," he said.

According to him, the Srimulat film is not just about comedy, but the reality of how at that time artists received a negative stigma.

“Srimulat does not focus on its own character even though the title is Srimulat: Hil the Impossible but we are not talking about Srimulat. We're talking about being an artist at that time. What does the artist need to reach the desired point," explained the 24-year-old actor.

"Srimulat: This Impossible Hill brings Srimulat's story to life but there is a side of an artist where many sacrifices are made, trying to become a true artist," he added.

Regarding comedy references, Bio One believes that the Srimulat story can be enjoyed by the current generation. The comedy presented has a number of story essences that can be watched by anyone.

“Srimulat has succeeded in capturing the essence that is relevant to the audience, regardless of age. Srimulat itself is a funny trademark. I think it's funny, if it's not funny, I'm embarrassed to play it," said Bio One.

The action of Bio One as Gepeng can be seen through the film Srimulat: Hil the Mustahal which will air from 19 May 2022 in theaters.
