JAKARTA - JYP Entertainment officially introduced the newest K-pop girl group, NMIXX, which debuted on Tuesday, February 22. With their debut album, AD MARE and the music video for OO, the group became the talk of the town in an instant.

Their debut song OO combines rock and funk genres. However, JYP said the NMIXX genre would be named MIXX POP, a genre which is a mixture of various genres in one song.

The music video released in one day reached 19 million views. The video showcases the members' dancing skills combined with fantastic CGI from desert to clouds.

Among the positive appreciation for the new group JYP, in fact their debut song has drawn sharp criticism from netizens. Not a few claim that NMIXX imitates the concept of ATEEZ and AESPA videos.

A netizen shared a screenshot of NMIXX's music video with ATEEZ entitled Illusion. In addition, the NMIXX concept video also has a title similar to ATEEZ including Utopia and Declaration.

Although it was done by two production teams, netizens believe that the NMIXX video shoot looks similar to ATEEZ.

NMIXX is also said to be following the aespa concept in terms of music and group concepts. When JYP Entertainment claimed that the NMIXX genre was MIXX Pop, many netizens said that the fusion of this genre had been done by AESPA.

Some of the costumes worn by NMIXX in the teaser photo also seem to have similarities with the aespa teaser for the song Next Level.

Netizens also commented on a number of these allegations of plagiarism. They regret that JYP Entertainment imitated the concept for a rookie group just starting their career.

“JYP imitated aespa and ATEEZ but also gave a messy and confusing debut song in K-pop history. The girls seem to get a better concept and music," said one netizen.

“JYP took advantage of ATEEZ because they came from a small agency and copied their concept. JYP can do more than this," said another.

"NMIXX tried to be like aespa and the song looked like Next Level but failed," said another.

As for now, JYP Entertainment has not made any clarification regarding these allegations.
