JAKARTA - The Indonesian film "NANA" received a good response in Berlin, Germany. The ticket for the film, which was entered as one of the leading nominations for the Competition category at the 72nd Berlinale Film Festival, is selling well.

According to a press statement from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Berlin, around 600 tickets available to watch the premiere of the film were sold out. The film, which was adapted from a fragment of the novel "Jais Darga Namaku" by Ahda Imran, will continue to air during the festival period which runs from 10-20 February 2022.

"This is not the first time I have watched an Indonesian film. But what impressed me the most was the combination of the story and the background music of this film," said Draga, an audience member who was interviewed by the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin after the premiere was quoted by Antara, Sunday, February 13. .

The Sundanese language film tells the story of Raden Nana Sunani who tries to start a new life after losing his family due to the conflict that occurred in his area around 1960.

The film depicts the love and resilience of a woman, even though she is still haunted by the past. Even though it is based on a story that happened half a century ago, the message conveyed by the film is still very relevant in real life today.

The film, produced by Batara Goempar and starring a series of well-known actors such as Happy Salma, Laura Basuki, Ibnu Jamil and Arswendi Nasution, depicts the traditions and life of the people of West Java wrapped in music, dances and the daily clothes of Sundanese people at that time. The thick traditional nuance in the film is considered to be one of the charms and memorable for the audience.

After the premiere, the film has been scheduled to be shown in seven other theaters in Berlin, namely on 14, 17, 18, and 20 February 2022. From the observations of the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin on the Berlinale official website, tickets for all the films have also been sold out.

The Indonesian Embassy in Berlin assessed that the inclusion of the film "NANA" or in English known as "Before, Now and Then" in the competition category became a new spirit for Indonesian filmmakers. This category is the main and most prestigious category of the nine categories contested at the 2022 Berlinale.

Nominations in the competition category have the opportunity to win the Berlinale Festival's main prize, namely the Golden Bear for the winner of the best film.

In addition, six Silver Bear awards are also prepared for nominations in this category. The six Silver Bears were respectively for the Grand Jury Prize, best director, best main character, best supporting actor, best screenplay, and Outstanding Artistic Contribution.

Of the hundreds of films from various countries selected, only 18 films were selected to be nominated for the competition category. Indonesian competitors in this category include Germany, France, Mexico, Switzerland, England, Italy, South Korea, and China.

Berlinale Artistic Director, Carlo Chatrian, in the publication of Berlinale 2022 said that although these films have various languages, cultures and styles, they all boil down to one point, namely a very strong sense of love.

"Overall, the characters that are told in these films are the best tribute we can imagine to humanity," said Chatrian.
