JAKARTA – The desire to make love for married couples, is not always burning. There are times when it dims together or one of the people who agree on a marriage commitment. A study explores sexual desire and its role in fulfilling life satisfaction in the household ark.

Citing the review of Sarah Hunter Murray, Ph.D. published in Psychology Today, Wednesday, February 9, not many couples can navigate sexual interest – or desire for sex – in terms of sexual frequency. Many measure satisfaction with how long sex is done, how many times a week or a month, and not a few who agree with this measure.

When one person has a higher desire for sex and the other has a lower interest in sex, if it persists it can lead to strife, frustration, guilt, and distress.

In a study published in Social Psychological & Personality Science, researchers analyzed data from 3 different studies of couples from Canada and the United States as participants. A total of 366 heterosexual couples, most of whom were married. The average length of the relationship was 9 years, 8.3 years, and 6.4 years. Age of participants between 18-67 years.

The researchers asked participants to fill out a questionnaire to measure their sexual desire for their partner, relationship satisfaction, and sexual satisfaction. The results of the questionnaire, 299 couples reported the man has a higher desire. Meanwhile, 115 couples reported higher desire for women and 22 couples reported the same level of sexual desire.

Exploring the relationship between desire and love life satisfaction, the authors reported that there was a greater absolute difference in sexual desire negatively related to relationship stripping and sexual satisfaction for both women and men.

As it turned out, the authors concluded that couples who had compatible sexual desires were no more satisfied than those who didn't. Instead, they found that a partner's overall level of sexual desire was associated with both sexual and relational satisfaction.

This means, couples with higher 'desire' overall and have different desires can get sexual satisfaction. Furthermore, satisfaction in the household ark is not only measured by how often or who has a higher sexual desire.
