Checking The Readiness Of PT KCI To Prevent COVID-19 In The Jakarta-Bogor Hazardous Route

JAKARTA - The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta has mapped the risk of spreading the corona virus or COVID-19 via public transportation. As a result, the commuter line with the Bogor-Depok-Jakarta route is classified as the area most at risk of being contaminated with the corona virus or COVID-19. This afternoon, we monitored how prepared PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) was in facing this situation.

Around 12.20 WIB, we arrived at Bogor Station. The atmosphere was much quieter than the mornings and afternoons we usually met. There, we did not find the crowd anxious. Everything seems normal. Some wore masks. Others, no. Throughout our monitoring, it is clear that no one has worn gloves to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

However, this silence has made it easier for us to monitor the facilities to prevent the spread of the virus inside the station. The first finding, there was no temperature scan of the passengers. Even hand sanitizers around the station. None of which we found. Later, we asked a station officer manning the passenger entrance.

The officer answered that Bogor Station has not provided hand sanitizers for its passengers. "Maybe not (distributed)," said the officer, Thursday, March 12.

Next, we boarded the train to Jakarta Kota. On the train, we also monitor the availability of hand sanitizers. As a result, we found one bottle that was still quite full. The hand sanitizer is placed at the end of the car number three. It was also in the carriage that we found a seat. Not so difficult in the middle of silence.

The loudspeaker started playing instrumental music to prevent boredom, before the announcement of the KRL officers to interrupt. Via a loudspeaker, the train speed control driver sends a warning to the passengers to stay healthy. The driver also reminded that PT KCI provides hand sanitizers at a number of stations and points in the carriages.

At Cilebut Station, we got off. The result, the same to zero. We found no hand sanitizers at a station which is one stop from Bogor Station. We got on the train again. Moving on, we have entered the DKI Province. We are at Pancasila University Station. There, we went back down to ensure the availability of hand sanitizers.

As in previous stations, here we also did not find hand sanitizers, let alone body temperature scanners. An officer on guard near the counter explained, yesterday, the station had provided several bottles which were distributed to several stations. However, the day was gone.

The officer's statement confirmed the many news about people taking the hand sanitizers provided. Because, on Monday, March 9, we found a hand sanitizer hanging near the passenger entrance. However, on Tuesday, March 10, the hand sanitizer was no longer visible. Only the rope used for hanging. Some people need to know themselves better. This is because hand sanitizers are facilities provided for the common interest.

Our journey continues. The next destination is Manggarai Station. A stop we couldn't possibly miss. Manggarai is the largest station and transit center for various train routes. There, we found the activity of checking body temperature with a thermal gun. However, checking body temperature does not seem optimal because it is not thoroughly applied to each passenger.

Apart from the thermal gun, we found a number of hand sanitizer bottles scattered all over the station. One of them is at the passenger entrance. Unfortunately, according to our observation, the hand sanitizer provided did not sell very well. Within five minutes, we only found seven people taking the time to clean their hands. Dozens of others, indifferent.

During this trip, we also spoke with a number of commuter line service users. Rizal, a 47-year-old private employee, admits that he knows the results of the mapping of the DKI Provincial Government that was conveyed by Governor Anies Baswedan some time ago.

However, he admitted that he did not want to turn away and continued to ride the KRL which had been taking him to the office in Central Jakarta. Rizal admitted that he focused on maintaining his immune system, including consuming garlic as an immunity booster.

"I surrender. In a sense, in Indonesia it is already 43, huh? In Iraq it's getting more and more. Iraq is now increasing. What is important is that we just keep our immune system, our cleanliness, and consumption of garlic," said Rizal we met at Pancasila University Station.

Separately, another passenger we met, Tiyas, admitted that he had big worries. The student from Bogor who is studying at a university in the East Jakarta area also admitted that he had seen the Jakarta Provincial Government mapping information through social media.

At a coffee shop near Manggarai Station, Tiyas said he plans to return to Bogor at the weekend by other modes of transportation, such as the Cawang-Ciawi APTB route. More expensive, indeed. But, what can I do? Tiyas believes that step is better to prevent the risk of transmission.

"Earlier when I found the same picture on Twitter, it was a bit parno, sis. Because he was planning to go home this Sunday. But, Tiyas himself has not seen in detail what the risk of contamination means. And is it true that it will be dangerous. So, Yes, I'm still considering. But, I thought about not taking the train, "said Tiyas.

PT KCI is actually aware of the potential for COVID-19 transmission on the commuter line, as indicated by the mapping of the DKI Provincial Government. Head of Public Relations of PT KAI for the Operational Region (Daop) 1 Jakarta Eva Chairunisa agrees. However, according to Eva, this condition has been coordinated with the KRP management and the DKI Provincial Government. PT KCI also continues to socialize commuter line users to wash their hands more frequently with antiseptic soap upon arrival at the station.

PT KCI also delivered education through the installation of printed and digital information media, including advising passengers who feel unwell - having a cough, fever or cold - to wear a mask when going to the commuter line.

"Because this is the most important thing to build a culture in passengers, how to be ethical when in unhealthy conditions, but still using public transportation, (they) have the awareness to personally use masks when using train services." Eva told reporters in Jakarta, Wednesday, March 11.

Regarding the availability of hand sanitizers, Eva admitted that PT KCI has provided 80 bottles of hand sanitizers which are distributed at stations. Then, regarding the scarcity of hand sanitizers, we also asked Eva for clarification on Wednesday night, March 11. To us, Eva replied: It could also be being replenished. Yes, surely we will continue to monitor its availability.
