JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) announced the discovery of new oil reserves in South Sumatra. This discovery is the result of intensive exploration efforts carried out over the past few months.

This discovery is located in the Padang Pancuran structure which is administratively located in South Sumatra. Until now, PHE is still evaluating the volumetric amount of the findings.

This structure was found through a PPC-1 well drilled 3,750 feet deep or the equivalent of 1,143 meters, and preliminary results showed significant production potential.

The flow test on 64/64 inches of oil flowing at an al-Fitr rate of 2,040 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and followed gas measurable less than 0.1 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).

With the discovery of new reserves in South Sumatra, throughout 2024, the total oil and gas resources recovered resources (RR) or resources ready to be produced by Pertamina's Upstream Subholding were 143 million barrels of oil (MMBO) and 1.7 trillion cubic feet of gas (TCF).

"Hopefully the Padang Pancuran structure can be produced and developed soon so that it can contribute to national oil lifting in order to realize the vision of self-sufficiency," said PHE President Director, Chalid Said Salim, quoted on Tuesday, December 24.

Chalid hopes that this discovery will provide social benefits for the surrounding community through job creation and infrastructure development.

Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero) ensures that Pertamina continues to strive to increase production in the upstream sector and find new reserves to maintain national energy security in the future.

"Pertamina's role in self-sufficiency in energy encourages us to continue to make breakthroughs in energy planning, both from oil and gas resources and building sustainable business energy with new and renewable energy," said Fadjar.
