JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has completed the construction of the Padang City Market. It is known, this project was carried out by contractor PT Adhi Persada Building with a budget of Rp112.3 billion.
Acting (Plt) Director General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of Public Works Endra S. Atmawidjaja said that market development and rehabilitation focused on increasing market function as a center of trade and the backbone of the local economy.
"In accordance with President Prabowo's message, we want to produce a quality market and meet the expectations of the community and traders, namely a safe, comfortable, clean, orderly market and of course it is always crowded with residents," said Endra in a written statement, Saturday, December 7th.
The Padang City Grand Market was built because it was damaged by the 2009 and 2016 earthquakes. The Padang Grand Market construction was carried out by the Ministry of Public Works through the West Sumatra Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) which began in July 2023 and was completed in September 2024.
The Padang City Pasar Raya was built with a building area of 19,320 square meters for 3 floors and 1 semi-basement floor. This market consists of 304 kiosks, 650 units of loss and 120 SRP for car parks and 114 SRP for motorbike parking. The current occupancy reaches around 40 percent.
According to Endra, the existence of quality market infrastructure is expected to provide tangible benefits. Especially, in ensuring the smooth distribution of basic commodities and encouraging equitable real sectors and MSMEs.
"With the completion of this market, we hope that traders and local residents can immediately use it," he concluded.
