JAKARTA - The Ministry of Religion (Kemendag) has proposed an increase in the cost of flights for the 2024 Hajj by 10 percent. This increase adjusts the price of flight tickets which increase from year to year.

The Director General of Hajj and Umrah at the Ministry of Religion, Hilman Latief, explained that there was a trend of increasing the cost of Hajj flight tickets from year to year. For example, said Hilman, in 2017, there was an increase of 5 percent.

Meanwhile, in 2018, said Hilman, there was a large increase of 5.2 percent. Likewise in 2019 there was an increase of 9.2 percent. Meanwhile, in 2022 there was an increase of 6.6 percent or Rp29.6 million and in 2023 after COVID-19 there was an increase of 10.5 percent.

For the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage, said Hilman, it is proposed that the cost of Hajj flights will increase by 10 percent. Even so, he hopes that the final decision will be lower than this figure.

"Currently we propose 10 (percent), but we hope to be much lower than this value. According to the agreement, we want to provide services at affordable costs but also with services that remain good," said Hilman at the Committee Meeting on the Cost of Organizing Hajj (BPIH) Commission VIII DPR RI, in Jakarta, Wednesday, November 15.

Hilman also hopes that lower benchmarks for Hajj flight tickets can affect the overall cost of the pilgrimage. So that the costs imposed on the community become more affordable.

"Our hope as the organizer is that we hope to get a more rational proportional price and have an impact on a more affordable BPIH," he said.
