JAKARTA - Perum Bulog managed to pocket an import contract of 1 million tons from an additional quota of 1.5 million tons.

Kontra ini dilakukan dengan beberapa negara, salah satunya Pakistan.

Director of Supply Chain and Public Service of Perum Bulog, Mokhamad Suyamto, said that in the current conditions, it is very difficult to get imported rice.

However, Bulog succeeded in conducting work contracts with a number of countries to increase the Government Rice Reserve (CBP) stock.

Bulog has succeeded in obtaining a 1 million tonne contract from an additional quotoa of assigning 1.5 million tons of rice imports from the government. Although the government has provided an additional quota of import assignments to Perum Bulog of 1.5 million tons, its implementation will be adjusted to domestic distribution needs," he said in an official statement, Friday, November 3.

Suyamto said the imported rice came from several countries.

However, Bulog will carry out the assignment of this rice importation from any country that allows and meets all requirements standards.

"Currently we have contracts with several countries whose production is still large, namely Thailand, Vietnam, Pakistan and Myanmar. Furthermore, we will also explore with India and Cambodia as well as other countries that allow and meet the requirements," he said.

Government Rice Reserve Stock

Suyamto ensured that the stock of Government Rice Reserves controlled by Bulog was very safe until next year through additional rice import assignments from the government of 1.5 million tons.

As for the rice stock controlled by Bulog, there are currently 1.45 million tons, then with the addition of new import assignments from the government, the number will be stronger for distribution needs until next year in order to maintain the stability of rice prices in the community.

Then, Suyamto said that his party was also conducting intensive monitoring regarding the current price of rice.

There has been a slight increase in rice prices due to several factors both externally and internally, such as the El Nino disaster and also the domestic situation that has just entered the planting season.

"People don't need to worry, the government through Bulog guarantees that rice demand is available in the community at affordable prices even though in the market there is a slight price increase. We carry out continuous monitoring in the midst of the current situation so that it remains under control," said Suyamto.

Until now, said Suyamto, Bulog has poured rice market operations or Stabilization of Food Supply and Prices (SPHP) throughout Indonesia with a total of 885 thousand tons and this activity also continues to be disbursed until prices are stable.

"Furthermore, food Aid Rice is being distributed for September October and November with a total of 641,000 tons to underprivileged communities throughout Indonesia," he said.
